Los Almendros is a perfect location for great snorkeling. Ocotal Beach has been a favorite location for snorkeling for Coastarricans and visitors alike for many years. Now you can stay right on the beach and walk to the snorkelig sites. Facing the Ocean on the right hand side of the beach is a network of shallow reefs. They host a wide vararity of sea life. Most of the tropical fish you see in Hawaii will be seen here. This includes seahorses, squid, rays, a resident sea turtle, a hugh variaty of colorful reef fish and shellfish. There is very little current nd the reefs are usually no more then 4 feet beneath the surface. The water varries from 76 degrees to 82 degrees usually. In spite of the abundent sea life there is usually 40 foot visibility. Bring your underwater camera or purchase an inexpensive disposable camera.
On the left hand side of the beach is an island. At the tip of the island is a wall which host all kinds of eals, shellfish and sea urchins. Just off the wall is the open ocean. The truly big fish pass this loction. Tuna, brracuda, dorado, and so much more. Whale sharks have been sighted. This harmless 30 foot shark will truly take your breath away with its grace and size. it is a long but easy swim to this location. Usually only scuba divers have access to this type of sea life.

Most of the dive boats will take snorkelers for a reduced cost to the local dive areas. Thes spots usually have shallow areas ideal for snorkeling. A word of caution, the tropical sun can give you a nasty burn, be certain to use sunblock even early and late in the day.
